New Jersey Car Insurance 18 Year Oldnew jersey car insurance 18 year oldForum - Questions & AnswersHas anyone else sought to find out how much health care insurance is for an 18 year old?Question: I did an on line search. Using a male 18 nonsmoker, working non-student living in New Jersey. I got back 21 policies prices starting at $169 per month. I compared that to an unlimited minutes calling plan with messaging from Verizon and that is $149 per month. I did a third for car insurance on a financed 2006 Toyota Corolla and that started at $700 per month. It does not look to me like there is a health insurance crisis for young people, but rather a car insurance crisis for young people. Why scrap the current health care insurance system that can deliver an EPO plan with $30 office deductible for pretty much the same price as a common cell phone plan? Esurance used to search.Answer: You need to stop thinking, using facts, and making your own decisions. We have government to make up the facts, tell you what to think and make your decisions for you. ![]() Anybody know of any car insurance co's that will give auto insurance policies to 17 year olds??Question: I have a 17 yr old that has already gotten 2 tickets so I want him off my policy - as he is making it too expensive for me to afford - I told him he needs to get his own insurance. I already called my insurance and tried taking him off my policy (as I took away his driving privelages) but they told me I HAVE TO keep him on my policy even if he doesn't drive - He has a license and has to be covered under my policy because he lives with me - so I can't take him off til he gets his own insurance. My problem - most co's will not issue a policy to anyone under 18 (PS - we live in New Jersey)Answer: As a licensed agent for NJ I can assure you there is no insurance company that will insure your son until he is 18. Given his driving record his rates will probably be near the 6000 per year range for just liability. He will benefit with a lower rate continuing to be on your insurance because the rating will be based on yourself with him only being an occasional driver along with his tickets. If he goes on his own he will be rated individually with no prior insurance history, 2 tickets and no credit to speak of to counter balance some of his activity if in fact is was a good credit rating. There is something called a Named not Owned policy which he can obtain is he does not have a vehicle titled in his name which would give him valuable insurance history which will lower his rate in the future when he does obtain a car of his own but he will also have to maintain a clean driving history for at least 2 years for this to be effective. I know it is tough and NJ rates are ridiculous; the only ones higher are Bronx and Brooklyn NY. But once again you will have to wait until he is 18 to even get a Named Not Owned Policy. Just to explain a Named Not Owned Policy will cover him for basic liability which would be Bodily Injury which pays out if he is in an at fault accident for the other person's medical injuries, Property Damage which would cover the other person's vehicle damage and PIP or Personal Injury Protection which would cover his medical bills up to a desired threshhold until his health coverage would then kick in with Supplimental uninsured motorist which would cover him if he was hit by someone with no insurance or not enough insurance to cover his injuries along with NJ Limited Tort or Verbal Threshhold. The limits I would suggest for a Named Not Owned POlicy would be BI 15/30, PD 25k , PIP 15k with 250.00 deductible SUM 15/30 SUM property damage 5k..... This Named not Owned policy will cover your son for any vehicle he drives which he does not own. This would be the way to get him off your policy out on his own. The other alternative would to be to have your son obtain insurance through the State. He would have to demonstrate that he has tried at least three insurance companies (when he is 18) all of which who refuse to offer him coverage. ![]() New Jersey Learners Permit Question Regarding Age?Question: I'm 20 years old and I wasn't able to afford car insurance or a car till recently. I never took Driver's Ed, but I'm going to take my permit test this week. Now, I know what the age/wait deal is...if you get your permit at 16 you have to practice a year before you get your license, if you get it at 18 you have to practice 6 months, and if you're 21 or older you have to practice 3 months. I turn 21 in October...so, my question is, once I turn 21, can I go back to the DMV and say I'm 21, I've had the 3 months practice, and proceed to take my road test? Or will I have to wait the full 6 months? Also, since I'll be 21 by the time I get my license, does that mean I won't have driving restrictions? I did not answer my own question. What I'm asking is, since I'm getting my permit NOW, at the age of 20, will I be able to go after I turn 21 in October and say I've had 3 months rather than have to wait the full 6? Hopefully someone understands what I'm trying to ask.Answer: you answered your own question. the answer is yes. it seems like you already knew the answer. why didnt you look it up ? ![]() |
