Another reason why the US government will probably bailout the car companies?

Question: Many of use assume that the current crisis is caused by CDOs which contain mortgages. However another type of CDO is the Synthetic CDO which is made up of credit default swaps which insures the holder against defaults of some of the worlds largest companies. The Synthetic CDO insures 100 of the largest companies from default and will pay the holder 1/3rd of the value of the insurance if 7 companies default, 2/3rds if 8 companies default, and the full amount if 9 companies default. Currently 6 companies on the reference list of all Synthetic CDOs that have defaulted include the 3 Icelandic banks, Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, and Countrywide. Also included is AIG, Freddie Mac, and Fannie Mae which are in partial default. GM and Ford are also companies on the reference lists. The total insurance value of Synthetic CDOs is estimated in trillions of dollars. The majority of the holders of Synthetic CDOs are large banks so bankrupting GM and Ford should solve the banks problems since they will be paid trillions of dollars. However, the banks which created the Synthetic CDOs convinced many municipalities and charities to be the insurers of the Synthetic CDOs for a fee of 1%-2%. So it appears if the insurers of the Synthetic CDOs pays out the insurance, the government will be changing from bailing out the banks and car companies to bailing out municipalities. http://www.smartcompany.com.au/Free-Articles/The-Briefing/20081119-The-CDO-timebomb--how-it-works-and-why-it-could-sink-or-save-the-world-economy-Kohler.html

Company Car Insurance - HELP!?

Question: Evening all, I'm in quite a pickle at the minute and I'm hoping that one of your intelligent lot could help me out with some valuable information. I've been promoted at work and I have been told that I need to listed on the company's vehicle insurance list, even though I have my own vehicle and insurance, and even though we've agreed that I will be using my own vehicle. Now, the only thing that has come up, which wasn't raised at any other time until recently is that you must possess a "clean" driving license. I have 6 penalty points on my license, though because it has been replaced none of them show up on the actual license itself. I haven't mentioned anything yet, because I don't want to lose the position, and as already stated, I do not intend to us any of the company vehicles, so I wondering if not mentioning the points would cause any issues with the insurance i.e. do they have a way of finding out if you have any points/driving convictions?

Answer: Lie about it or conveniently "forget to mention them" and you could end up being terminated.

Car insurance neglecting responsibilities?

Question: I will try to be as detailed as possible without making this seem overly complicated. My wife recently was rear ended as she was stopped at a red light. The other driver was found at fault and we are having some difficulty with their insurance company. The damage on our car was enough to total it. here is a list of things we have done and the insurance companies actions. 1 - we took the car to a repair shop where they would hold on to it made estimates etc. 2 - other party's insurance company would pay 200 for pain and suffering on whiplash (terribly low), 4,100 for the car (KBB value for retail which is a good thing) 3 - we needed a rental as we both have jobs and an infant to take care of. 4 - we have not received any payment from the company and we are receiving paperwork to transfer possession of the vehicle and title. 5 - the insurance company is having us return the rental before we even received paperwork for transferring ownership of the totaled vehicle, payment for the totaled vehicle, thus making us out a car and the money stated that are owed. In this instance, we were also told that we owe $200 for the rental fees. we have had the rental for one week (insurance not covering rental costs?) 6 - we are losing time at work for the return of the rental. 7 - we are close to not having enough cash for our rent and about to terminate our lease early due to lost wages and unexpected payments. 8 - my wife is still experiencing pain from the injury caused from the accident and no word on repayment, coverage, or pain and suffering compensation from the insurance. Other facts, We have not signed ANY paperwork due to the fact that all the paperwork given to us have been agreement for $200 in pain and suffering, and paperwork for transference of the vehicles title. What can we do to expedite the insurances payment of the vehicle? Having a replacement is crucial for us in keeping our apartment. Isn't it the insurances responsibility for payment of a rental in this case? Also is it correct that the rental is returned before compensation of the totaled vehicle is given? let alone the car title? Any help is greatly appreciated as losing an apartment would be devastating to anyone. If this were to happen, could this be used against the insurance company for their neglect to replace our mode of transportation? Its been close to 3 weeks since the accident itself and we have received ZERO thus far.
