Where do car insurance companies get your driving record in CA?

Question: I hit a guys bumper while driving a company car a couple of years ago and I thought he filed a claim but the company took care of it and I never heard about it again. I'm getting car insurance and I pulled my driving record from the DMV and all I have is a seatbelt violation but no accidents. Is there another database somewhere that insurance companies will check or is it just your DMV record? Maybe this all got settled without insurance intervention and I dont' want to pay higher fees if its not necessary. Am I in the clear?

Answer: Was a citation issued at the time of the accident? If not, it won't show up in the MVD. The insurance industry also has something similar to a credit report, called the CLUE report that lists past property and casualty claims made by you. That is used as well in determining your insurability.

What car insurance companies cover individuals with just a permit?

Question: I need to get my license, I own my own car and have a permit, but I can't get a license without insurance, or insurance without a license, so I'm kind of stuck. I just moved to a new town and don't know anyone, so I can't just use someone else's car.. I know Progressive insures people with permits, but I was wondering if there were any other auto insurance companies that did the same, so I can compare prices. Any info helps, Thank you!

What companies has cheap car insurance for college students?

Question: Im a college student and wants to get off my my parents car insurance its currently 97.00 a month she said thats the cheapest it would be because I would have to pay 500 or 800 in advance or something like that. But i want to be independent and just pay it myself under my own plan ...any suggested car insurance companies?

Answer: Get your insurance from a good company offering good coverage, then stick with them for the long term.,.. All insurers play 'leap-frog' with prices because their prices are determined by their loss experience. If you have a good long-term track record with your insurance company they won't cancel you if you have a bad year.
