Do I have to list all additional drivers for auto insurance in Ontario?

Question: I am shopping for auto insurance and noticed that if I include my wife and son in the quote, the insurance jumps from $1600 a year to $3100. That's almost double and none of them have any accidents or anything. If I don't include them as secondary drivers, can they still drive the vehicle and be insured? And if not, does that mean that every family in Ontario must list all family members that MIGHT drive the vehicle? Answers are MUCH appreciated.

Answer: yes you have to list them, because if you don't list all licensed drivers living in the household, and you have an accident, the insurer can deny the claim based on non-disclosure of information. If you don't wish your rates to go up, you could always have an excluded driver endorsement, but this is not really recommended because what if they absolutely need to drive the vehicle in an emergency...there would be no coverage. If your wife and son have their own automobiles insured elsewhere, or say your son is listed on your wife's policy, your company would likely not charge for him on your policy. They will just require proof that they are insured elsewhere. Or, if that's not the case, how about listing both, but having your son pay for his share of the premium? If he's listed on your policy, it will be to his benefit in the future, because he'll maintain a continuous insurance record, which will save him tons when he decides to buy his own Mustang.

My son driving my car?

Question: Well currently i pay $140 for auto insurance on my saturn and i want to give this car to my son. However if i list him as a frequent driver the insurance goes up to $600. If i let my son drive my car without listing him as a frequent driver, and someone crashes into him, am i still covered? Also what are the legal issues if he is driving the saturn without being listed as a frequent driver. PS: I live in Ontario, Canada

Answer: just do what u think is best for you and your family financially

Farrier Wages - will anyone share?

Question: My son was injured in an auto accident in Ontario (not his fault) He has worked on some really good standardbreds including for example 2 winners of the "Little Brown Jug", and some others of that calibre - to give you an idea, he has shoed "Amigo Hall", "Royal Majesty", "Glidemaster (Walnridge Farm in Pennsylvania)","Mach Three", "Ambro Deuce", "Dr.No", "Tell All" and " Million Dollar Cam" . Is there anyone who would be willing to share a range of income? He used to do 6 horses a day and is now only able to do 2. There is NOT MUCH information on the wages of a good farrier and he needs to prove to the insurance company what this skill is worth. My email mike@ogradyinsure.com Thanks!

Answer: Does your son not keep any past billing invoices on file to prove what prices he charged? What sounds suspicious to me is the fact that you say he needs to "prove" to the insurance company what farrier's are worth, yet, I notice that your email has "insure.com" at the end? hmm....sorry, but this seems a little fishy if you ask me. Correct me if I am wrong, but, maybe "you" are the insurance company wanting to validate the claimers info. :- ) Does this # ring a bell? 519-842-8465 .....Billy Ray "Meikyo"
