Car rental insurance: What coverage do I need from rental car company to protect from risk?

Answer: Most credit cards provide at leastt the collision damage waiver (CDW). Any other insurance can and should be bought from the rental car company

I don't have anyone that could rent one for me as I don't live near my parents. I asked the insurance company if they would set up a direct bill with the rental car company and they said it was too much of a hassle. Is this legal?

Answer: Yes, they are NOT required to directly pay the rental car company. Unfortunately with your age, the vast majority of rental car companies won't rent to you. Your best bet is to call a little hole in the wall place, or ask the dealership where the car is being fixed, if they will rent a car to you, or give you a loaner.

Can you get insurance for car hire cheaper than the one offered by the car rental company?

Question: I visit Canada a lot, and love to hire cars from the aiport. I am gettting sick of paying over the odds for comprehensive insurance though. The rental company asked for 100$ for 3 day cover for a Yaris. They also said that the law in Ontario says that I will need to pay for damages to the car if I had an accident even if the other driver was at fault, as everyone pays for his own car. Is that true?

Answer: Talk to the company that carries the insurance policy for your own car - quite often, it either already covers rental cars, or you can get low-cost additional coverage. Make sure you understand what that coverage does and doesn't include.

If I am 16 can I get a rental car if my insurance company covers it?

Would I be covered to get one since I have full rental coverage? I am going to call my insurer tomorrow to see. But I'd like to know now. Okay, but if a 16 year old can have full rental coverage why can't they rent a car? What's the point in the coverage then?

Answer: Due to liabilities no rental company will rent you a car.Most insurance companies have rental car coverage but with your age it really don't mean anything because the rental companies set their policy's not the insurance company..
