Answer: No it's not illegal. Any company can choose who to trade with, or not, as they see fit. The only grounds that could bring their decision not to quote into question is if it could be demonstrated that youare being discriminated against on grounds of race / sex / religion etc, and that your race / sex etc made no material difference to your application and therefore did not provide a reasonable basis for exclusion.

Why do so many credit card companies exclude rental car insurance for rentals in Ireland?

Answer: I've had a number of credit cards with the rental car coverage. Not a single one exculded Erie. Virtually all of them excluded Ulster, however, for what should be obvious reasons. The level of violence in Ulster has subsided somewhat from its historic levels. If this continues then maybe the credit card insurance companies will change their policies and start offering coverage there.
