Compare Car Insurance Companies

Car insurance companies willingness to pay a claim?

Question: I've been looking at several different car insurance companies to compare rates and services. I've never had a claim in the past, but I was wondering if anyone had positive/negative feedback they'd be willing to share about any specific companies and how they handled a claim. I've been warned that some companies are pain to work with when you do file a claim, but maybe that was just a few rare circumstances with the people I've already talked to. Thanks for you input.

Answer: We have State Farm and they are very fast with clam payments. When our car was totaled last year, (while it was parked in our driveway, no less), the adjustor went to the lot the car had been towed to the day after it happened, to check it over, and brought a check to our house the next day.

Where do car insurance companies find accident/driving violations?

Question: I have a clean driving record since 1991. I insured my younger brother's car a few years ago. He was in a couple accidents with alcohol playing the factor. The car title was under my name along with insurance. I want to compare insurance quotes but I honestly do not remember the dates of his accidents (3-4+ years ago?). If I find a cheaper rate, I want to make sure I am not dumped by the new insurance company for false information. How do I access the same information the insurance companies find for actual quotes? Since it was his name associated with the accidents and not mine, is there a unique database for this?

Answer: It's called a driving abstract you can just go to the DMV and request one they are pretty cheap, maybe $6 to $10 for one or you might be able to get it on your states website. Or I bet if you ask the insurance company that you are interested in to look that info up for you, I'm sure your not the first person that can't remember accidents, dates, tickets etc..

Compare car insurance with health insurance, car insurance is a law, health insurance isn't why?

Question: car insurance is a law right? and I know a lot of people that have a very difficult time paying car insurance since it's so high, but it seems like insurance companies are making a lot of money, NOW how can we compare that to health insurance if it became a law to have to have it. You would hope that health insurance would be more affordable since more people are putting money into the pot right, but I am afraid but it being a law, the rich (insurance companies will get richer) and raise the cost of health insurance since it's a law. Maybe our solution would be to have our government give us tax breaks on health insurance premiums and some how get more for our money with health insurance. It's sad that you have to spend $500.00 a month for health insurance but still have to pay office visits and wait 6 months for preexisting problems. Maybe the solution is to have better health insurance options, right? Isn't that what McCain wants?

Answer: Car insurance that is law is liability to someone else. I have a car with only liability by my choice. If I wreck it, insurance won't fix it. Health insurance is not a liability issue and if a person chooses not to have it, it should not be law that they do.

What car insurance companies only ask for 3 year driving history, compared to 5 years?

Question: I am currently with Nationwide, have been for over 4 years now, and am looking to see if there is anything cheaper out there. The rates aren't too bad but I'm always looking to save. I have been violation and accident free for 3 years but not quite 5 years yet. Nationwide only requires 3 years and I can't find any others. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Answer: None that I'm aware of, and some actually look back 7 years. Minor faults will not affect rates after 3 years, Duo's after 5, and more serious things after 7.
