Car Company Houston InsuranceForum - Questions & AnswersIs a car insurance company responsible for damage done by a stolen vehicle?Question: . Hi all! Long story short, I live in Houston, Texas. One night a few months back a tow truck slammed into my driveway at 3:40 a.m., totaling one of my cars and causing it to hit my other two cars which were in front of it, which in turn pushed them into my garage door and caused damage to the bricks and door itself. Later that morning, the tow truck place reported the tow truck as stolen. What is the law on this? Is their insurance company responsible or not? Thanks! . I don't have the money to pay my deductibles ($1,500 home and $750 car) AND I don't want this to go on MY record which it automatically does once a claim is filed. "A Few Months Back" is due to the fact that the tow truck place denied they had insurance. I had to go through the Sheriff's office who investigated further and who finally just phoned the tow truck place and they gave them their insurance info. and they passed it on to me as well as adding it as an addendum to the report. Lastly I have already filed with their insurance carrier who have asked for more info. as there was insufficient info. on the police report (and they were right) - supposedly the form the reporting officer used that night did not contain the correct diagram or narrative. In any case, I finally received the full report today and that is where I see they filed a stolen vehicle report that morning upon picking up their wrecked truck. As for the goofball that asked how I do not have $2,250 toward deductibles and yet have three cars...am I missing something? What correlation does one have with the other? All my cars are paid for, so I don't get the idiotic question. Barry: Perhaps I worded that incorrectly. I don't have the money to pay $2k+ in deductibles means I don't WANT to have to pay $2k+ in deductibles that I don't feel I should have to pay. My freakin' cars were parked in my driveway for crissakes. Additionally, your point STILL makes no sense, because ... hmm ... if I had two cars instead of three ... let's see ... I'd have TWO cars instead of THREE, Capiche? By the way, I didn't mention my 4th car, a '91 Jaguar XJS that is stuck in my garage because the garage door will not open? Luckily, it did not get hit when the door did.Answer: It depends on whether they have comprehensive insurance or not and how the new police report is worded. ![]() Uninsured hit insured company truck that ran red light in Houston. Insurance appraised & deducted 30%.How?Question: My bf driving through intersection breaked but still hit a company owned pickup truck that ran red light in Houston, Texas. My bf is uninsured and police gave other driver citation for running red light. The insurance company appraised my bf's vehicle and offered 30% less because they said the damage on my bf's vehicle sustained (totaled) was a lot due to him speeding. The insurance company is not willing to pay for 1 doctor visit or rental car either. What is the insurance company trying to do and what are they trying to get away with? BF is certain he was not speeding. There were no citations issued to BF (that I know of but even then, no license was revoked or anything like that.) It's between the insurance company and BF now so how could the insurance company win a battle over the alleged speeding when thus far, there is no proof? I appreciate your answers with opinions regarding my BF being uninsured but as the answers continue they're losing focus on my question. "Littlebi.." your answer was unacceptable on Yahoo! Answers in my opinion. My BF used to have insurance and doesn't anymore but other than that he's a complete, law abiding citizen and he'll most likely get insurance again in the future. I was hit by a drunk, underaged, illegal alien with no insurance on 1-24-09 so there is definite proof that many uninsured motorists are on the road. 1 in 5 Texans doesn't have auto insurance. I want to tell you that I love the answers so far, they're helpful in my research so for that I am very thankful. My question is extended, what is the insurance company trying to do and how can they prove he was speeding? BF's speed limit was 45.Answer: They are doing what many insurance companies do. Trying to weasel out of paying a claim in part because they know he has no insurance to go to bat for him and they also know that he will have to hire a lawyer to get for him what he deserves. ![]() Is car insurance denied if involved in accident while driving with a expired driver's license?Question: My wife just noticed her driver's license has expired. She has aready renewed it over the web but the new DL will only arrive in 15 to 20 days. As she needs to drive before the new DL arrives, what happens in case of an accident? Will or can the insurance company deny any claims based on the expired driver's license? We live in Houston, TX.Answer: Since she renewed over the web, the last step should have been a printable form that shows her renewal, which when carried with her license would cover it. Did she print that form? ![]() My car had some minor damages due to hurricane ike. I filed a claim through my insurance company.?Question: And they told me that I had a $500 deductible. I thought that only applies if I got into a wreck and it was my fault. I've heard from friends that they didn't have to pay a deductible. I am not working right now and cannot pay $500. It was not my fault that the hurricane hit Houston.Answer: Your deductible is the amount that you agree to self-insure for. It is not a punishment from your insurance company although most people think it is. With your deductible you have basically agreed to take care of the first $500 EVERY TIME something goes on with your vehicle. The only time I have seen a comprehensive deductible waived is with a windshield claim and that is usually with a repair. if it's replaced there is usually a ded to pay. I do know there are about 8 states that offer a glass waiver. I do not believe Texas is one of them. I hope everything else is okay with your and your family. The devestation in Houston/Galveston is horrific. I wish you and your family well. ![]() |
