What are the top three car insurance companies in Ontario?

Question: Does anyone know what are the names of the top 3 auto insurance companies in Ontario? Thanks for help.

Answer: Regardless of who you decide to use, amounts will vary depending on what kind of coverage will you have. Just Liability?Collision?Theft?Vandalism? it all depends on your driving records, the state you live in and how long you are willing to search around... Just take some quotes online, phone some brokers offline, walk into a broker's office.

Any car insurance company in Ontario that will let me take out a policy if car is registred to someone else?

Question: Hi, I want to take out a policy but the car will be registered to my boyfriend's name. Is there any auto insurance company in Ontario that will let me do that?

Answer: Actually there is a form that allows you to register the vehicle, and of course insure it, letting your boyfriend retain ownership. It is similar to a lease, however you cannot involve money or then it becomes a commercial transaction. We called it an "agreement between parties", in which your boyfriend gives you care, custody, and control of the vehicle for a period greater than 30 days, but doesn't gift you the vehicle. You register it, you insure it, you get the parking tickets, but you can't sell the vehicle, or otherwise dispose of it. In the even of a write-off, the cheque goes to him as the legal owner. If you aren't the registered owner, you don't have an insurable interest. And yes, if he is going to be more than an occasional driver, he has to be a named additional driver. If you are living together, the situation is different, he would have to be named a regular driver as well, and it would make no sense to insure and register in your name (unless he has no licence). Recap, there are 2 types of ownership, legal, and registered, you would be registered owner, he would be legal owner. Talk to the registrations people FIRST, then your insurance broker. It is relatively common practice in some jurisdictions, like Manitoba, where I was an insurance broker and vehicle registrations agent, it may not be so common in Ontario, or even accepted by provincial licencing authority.

Whats the Cheapest Car Insurance in Ontario?

Question: I live in the Niagara Region, Southern Ontario, and my husband is 23, we are looking for car insurance we can afford. Currently he is under his mothers insurance paying $60/month through Sheehan&Rosie, but we want our own car so he needs to be primary driver and we've gotten quotes from $230-350. We are looking for alot cheaper. Anyone know of any Car Insurance companies that have good rates?

Answer: As an insurance broker in Ontario i can tell you that there is no cheap car insurance for a young driver. This is the most expensive group a driver can be and will generate the highest premium. There are things you can do to minimize your premium, but still expect to pay at least 200 for full coverage and 180 or so for liability coverage. When buying car insurance, buy a home/tenants/condo to get a multi-line discount usually around 10% discount. Get the highest deductibles you can - $1000. Try to insurance more than one vehicle with the same company - multi-vehicle discount 10-15%. But the best thing you can do is shop around... here's how: There are 2 types of insurance companies in Ontario; direct and broker, and to get the best results you should search both types. Call several direct companies such as: allstate, statefarm, td insurance, belair direct. Search online or through some yellow pages for several brokers/brokerages that will shop many broker companies on your behalf- this is very important because a broker can and will check prices from 5-10 companies that might insure you and contact several high risk specialty insurers. Good luck, Alec S - The Insurance Broker
